Został przyjęty do produkcji w 1952 roku jako JS-10, ale ze względu na klimat polityczny po śmierci Stalina w 1953 roku został przemianowany na T-10., Główne uzbrojenie 122 mm działo D-25TA i przedni pancerz 250 mm. odtąd wielokrotnie modernizował modernizację. W 1957 r. Ostateczny typ to T-10M, ulepszona wersja z dłuższym działem M-62-T2 L/43 z 5-odbojnicowym hamulcem wylotowym, karabiny maszynowe zastąpione 14,5 mm KPVT, nocna na podczerwień sprzęt wizyjny, ochrona NBC. The T-10 was a Soviet heavy tank of the Cold War, the final development of the KV and IS tank series.
